ACEO 2 - Never A Good Sign by ursulav ACEO 2 - Never A Good Sign by ursulav
So I've been fooling with these ACEOs -- little cards by artists, 2.5 x 3.5 -- and I kinda wanted to do a project with a set of cards that included phrases taken from my life, blog, etc. Kind of like thoroughly random journaling devoid of context. (I cannot shake the feeling that my old art professor would have approved, but I'm going ahead with it anyway.)

So, when my boyfriend was playing Dead Space recently, I heard myself utter the phrase you see before you, and it struck me for some reason, so...um...there it is.

The jar is a modified version of one I did in a long ago painting, printed, cut out on heavy illo board to give it a 3-D kind of effect, and worked over with colored pencil and pen.

And seriously, IS it ever a good sign? Really?

Original is for sale, wee little limited edition prints will be available at some point.

oh god. This reminds me of something I saw on a forum.

"If I was a woman, I would want to get pregnant. But not keep the baby. At the 3'rd or 4'th month of pregnancy, I'd get an abortion, keep the dead fetus, and put it in a jar of formeldahyde. I'd repeat this process again and again til I had so many jars of fetuses that I could cover all the walls of a small closet with them. Then, I would get pregnant again but keep the baby. If that kid acted up, I would use that closet as a time-out room for them to sit in as a reminder of how easily I could have aborted their asses."

A wall of dead fetuses...It CAN be a good sign, I imagine...

The Smithsonian owns a very large nature library that I like to call the Emporium of Dead Things. Its real name is "The Naturalist Center." You go to this place and it's full of dead plants, rocks, stuffed animals, drawers, and jars. The jars are full of dead animals, and you can pick them up and study them. In that context, a wall of dead fetuses wouldn't be at all so bothersome. Nor is a drawer of dead finches, or a cabinet full of dead owls. The only thing disturbing? That really old fossilized fern that is creating sulfuric acid powder as it decomposes, that is the perfect height for toddler's hands to reach. >->

That's probably your inner Catholic talking; Its why I could not go to one of those Corpes museums a few months back. I have seen them before, and I just don't think I could handle it again. Yet when I walked through a relicquery in Rome Italy, I felt at peace, even found them strangly lovley. Ya gotta love paradoxes...

This reminds me of something a friend of mine once showed me on 4chan. A woman had posted her greatest way of shocking children. She proposed to get pregnant as often as possible and abort the child just as it was beginning to develop a human like appearance. She would the preserve it in a jar and collect a room full of dead fetuses preserved in jars. To traumatize children just show them the room and tell them they could have ended up on the wall just like the others. People are sick, aren't they.

I have just gotten into ATCs/ACEOs myself recently. Its a great way to try out new things.

This made me think of abortion immediately. Felt like it'd work for poster for pro-life, or however its called.

It's amazing what one twist of the imagination can do... because I thought of "sign" as "notification," like a street sign. And that would definitely be a weird sign. Especially a yellow sign that said "WALL OF FETUSES" on it.

I cannot stop laughing about it now.

No, wall of fetuses is never a good sign. They are too small to be raised as zombies and you can't use them as spare parts for your Frankenstein monster.

But that wall can be used to detect odd people. Like if someone looks at the wall and says: I am hungry, you shouldn't invite that person to your house.

Nothing that happens in Dead Space is a good sign. D:

Yet I couldn't bring myself to be scared of it at all. Maybe I'm just jaded, or maybe it's just my exposure to it was watching my brother play over my shoulder--every time I turned to see what was going on, something bizarre and laughable was happening in the game.

When I was in Catholic school they showed us this ridiculous anti-abortion propaganda film filled with blatant lies, and one of the recurring themes was that the abortion clinics all kept rooms filled with jars of dead baby. When the first dead baby jar flashed on the screen, it looked so ridiculous that my best friend busted out laughing and got glares of pure HATRED from some of the super Christian kids who were near tears. That's my story.

A wall of dead bodies, whatever the age of the former inhabitants, is never a good sign. Someone or something had to kill them. And there's a good chance that without thick armor and your own self-contained air supply... it'll kill you too.

Be smart. Shop S-Mart and get it before it gets you.

Hehe. Even if you've never heard of Dead Space, this would make an excellent shirt design with the quote on the front and the fetus on the back or vice versa. :D Just installed the game tonight. Looking forward to digging into it tomorrow. Awesome random quote and illustration. ;p

A wall of fetuses is good.

You basically get a pregnant a lot and abort each baby. Then make a wall of fetuses.

Finally, you get pregnant with a baby and keep it.

When your child grows up and does something naughty, you send him/her to the fetus room to remind them of what their fate COULD have been.

It's a win win situation!
