Here's an oddity, and my apologies for the poor presentation--this is a 3-D piece, but I scanned it in because my camera's batteries have gone the way of all flesh.
Lately I've been sort of enamored of the little Day of the Dead folk art shrines. Like all good religious holidays, there is a glorious and appealing tackiness to the whole thing. So I made a teeny one of my own, with obligatory chicken, a variation on my happy-voodoo-skulls for the skeleton, and some spare change.
The "shrine" is about 7 x 10 or thereabouts and around an inch deep, constructed out of acid-free foam core with fiberboard backing. Although you can only see the front, the sides and back are sealed with ceramic stucco, giving it a kind of funky texture. The fiberboard backing has a hanging slot so it can go straight on the wall.
I had fun with this. I can see wanting to make more, and maybe gluing more random objects than just pennies to one. I also kinda like the happy skeleton--he may need to appear somewhere else, shrine or no...
Anyway, I don't know that prints of this would work, but the original's definitely for sale--send a note or visit [link] for details.
pretty cool, the 'shrines' are called ofrendas...I had to make one for my spanish class. There's a lot of symbolic elements that go into them but I have to say yours is a whole lot more entertaining.
