About a thousand years ago--give or take 993 years--in '98, I did a painting entitled "Cold Sun." It was a fairly unremarkably little piece of a chick with a facial tattoo and a staff with a skull on it, part of my "I Want To Be Larry Elmore When I Grow Up" period. It's not the worst painting out of that era by a long shot--there are things from those days that haunt my nightmares*--but it's generally pretty unremarkable, and it dropped out of my brain for years until I was putting up the new website and people had expressed a desire to see some of the ancient art, and it was one of the ones still on my hard drive.
And I was lying on the couch trying to nap through the sound of the woodpeckers trying to drill through the vinyl siding, and thought in a vague sort of way "I wonder what revisiting some of my old paintings, in a gearworld setting, would look like?" And lightning struck my brain, and I said "Heeeey..." and got up and began sketching. It isn't the painting I did seven years ago (which is, in fact, [link] ) and in a sense, it's not exactly the painting I'd probably do today--I've mostly gotten over the need to stick a skull staff in everything--but I was pleased enough. And reflecting either my changed aesthetic sensibility, or perhaps the extra thirty pounds I've gained since I was twenty-one, she's got some hopefully realistic pudge. (The downside to this sort of thing is that inevitably someone--generally a young man who has never actually seen a nude woman in the flesh, although we do get all kinds-- sees fit to type "OMG! fat! gross!" This no longer bothers me, and in fact, it's kinda fun to count time-to-horror...)
And it's a Gearworld painting, which was nice, because I've been fretting over trying to do those. It is digital. I will be selling the jumbo 13 x 19 prints, limited edition of 25, for $50, and I've got the standard smalls for $10. I'm also looking into some even larger prints, possibly an edition of 5, possibly for if I ever get gallery ambitions, but I'm not sure yet on that, or whether they'll be available on-line, or what.
Oh, Painter 7, wacom tablet, it took two obsessive days, and my aching right arm stinks of mint from all the crap I've been rubbing on it to hold together long enough to finish.
*You know the ones where you're being pursued by ravenous zombies carrying your old paintings? Okay, maybe not...
I love your paintings, often precisely because of the realistic pudge, and the general inclination you show to draw the sorts of people who don't usually get drawn. Add to that your fantastic imagination, wonderful sense of whimsy, and downright righteous artistic skills, and you know why I watch you. Great stuff, as always!

wow, veeery interesting and unusual character. It's good to see an old woman for a change, not some young and strong warrior or old man in a dusty cloak and beard. And it's marvelously pulled off as usual.
Forgive my ignorance but what is Gearworld?

I love the realistic body - so-called 'perfect' bodies are boring.

Gearworld is this...kinda...weird setting in my head, characterized by concrete, gears, and general weirdness. I try to paint stuff there frequently, but I don't seem to have very much control over it.

you never cease to amaze me. Her face seems a bit quirky, maybe, too symmetrical? but, past that, this is gorgeous. the muted subdued lighting, and the deep nuetral colours are probably my favourite parts.

Ew fat. Gross... heh, just kidding. I think it's nice to see pudgy characters and I like how you made her look so much older than the original. Very nice indeed. ^.^
