Hunting Acorns

The hunting acorn is a different breed than the common acorn--fiercer, more cunning, and with far greater stamina. While a common acorn will soon grow tired of the chase, the hunting acorn will tail its target like grim death, until the prey falters or its master calls it back to the glove. Savage, stubborn, and ferociously independant, the spirit of the acorn cannot be broken. Instead the handler must earn the acorn's respect. The task is difficult, and fraught with peril--you can easily lose an eye to the raking stem--but among seasoned acorn handlers, there is no greater reward than the trust and confidence of this noble nut.

Pencil, 11 x 14 on Bristol. I had the basic idea for this in my sketchbook for ages, but for some reason, today just seemed like the day to let the hunting acorn fly. I think I have a weird obsession with strange falconry/riding animals/seeing-eye things. I am constantly struck by how wonderful and surreal domestication is. Or possibly I just need more sleep. I dunno.
