This started out in a roundabout fashion--I wanted to do something in the Big Pants style that I enjoyed on the kirin, I wanted to paint an okapi, and I wanted a shrunken head. Halfway through, I realized that the joy of an okapi is in the leg markings, so I couldn't use the big pants, but I liked the composition as it was, so--I gave 'im Mondo Calves. The result has a definite Chris Goodwin flavor--equines with big legs, it's a natural--and I was pretty pleased with how it came out.

Stripes are always fun to work with. In fact, any kinds of markings are fun to work with (as long as you're not trying to attempt to recreate an insanely difficult marking set.. but I digress). I love the color pallete for this one. And I feel very sorry for the shrunken head. - But it certainly does add a lot to this picture. Also, something smallish to comment on - I love how you did the creature's digits. I'm not sure I've seen that with an arthro cattle sort of beast... (then again, I don't LOOK for art of those animals either..) I usually see either human hands or hooves. o_O; Which begs the question...
Wow.. that's so cool! I don't see okapis drawn a lot, but you did an excellent job! Love your way of colouring too.. it looks very furry indeed ^-^
Cool head btw
Eheheh, the picture is awesome, but what really got me was the description: " wanted to do something in the Big Pants style that I enjoyed on the kirin, I wanted to paint an okapi, and I wanted a shrunken head." The Shrunken head just sorta threw me off, crazy. Very nice work

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.

We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
