The snoggox is a large, surly, foul-smelling denizen of the broad savannah known as the Rootveldt, although long-hair relatives, the "woolly snoggox" are found far to the north and south, giving the snoggox a broad distribution of range, which it mostly hates. The snoggox hates a lot of things, including people, other animals, and the color blue. (The sky is a constant source of irritation.) Since this dislike of other animals extends to other snoggox, they are a solitary beast, and nobody is quite sure how they get together long enough to propagate the species, although it's suggested that the snoggox mating call, "SNNNNNRRRHoooooonnnnk!" means something like "Really? I hate the sky TOO! We have so much in common!"

The snoggox calves are extremely precocial, able to stand, walk, and grumble within minutes. The calf grows rapidly, staying with the mother as long as they can stand each other. (Needless to say, snoggox are on their own very young.) Once fully grown, the snoggox weighs over a ton and has few natural predators and fewer friends, which is the way the snoggox likes it.
