Once upon a time there was a girl who discovered that if she played a certain tune on a jade flute, she could summon up jade gnomes, a peculiar, harmless, but rather creepy looking spirit of the underground. The fact is that many of us have talents like this, but generally never discover them due to lack of opportunity, since one can go one's entire life without playing a jade flute, or discovering that one can speak the language of ground sloths, or turning fruitcake into solid tungsten by singing Sinatra tunes to it under a quarter moon. The girl in question only discovered her particular talent due to a complex series of events revolving around a bet, and eventually involving a herd of water oxen, a mulberry bush, the neighbor's picket fence and a handful of rabbit droppings (and, of course, a jade flute) the details of which are too long and tedious to relate here.
Seriously, I did this in an evening to play around with the oil pastel tools in Painter, and no, I don't really know what I was thinking with the little green dudes.
Gotta love the jade gnomes... lol, I think they're kinda cute! In and impish sort of way. But anyhoo, loverly art work... must go and explore the rest of your gallery!
yep:the green dudes are freaky
and the story is definitely worthy of relating
i bet ou could even get it published--hey man, if it wasn't too creepy, i would read it.
mmm...as for the image itself--all seems well, 'cept the cave entrance (or exit depending which way you look at it) is kinda flat--it lacks 3-d

Great picture as well. The girl's knee looks somewhat flattened -- and her right hand is held at what looks to be an extremely uncomfortable angle, but I guess a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to protect her modesty! The texture of the fur trim of the robe she's almost-wearing works very well.
And the jade gnomes? Dunno what their story is, but I suspect at least one of 'em turned to making gryphons when it grew up...
