Little known to science, the Loch Ness Monster is not, in fact, a plesiosaur or a brontosaurus or any other saurian silliness. That would be ridiculous. Dinosaurs are extinct.

Obviously it's a dodo.*

Watercolor/colored pencil/acrylic ink, a little under 5 x 7. I was in a major doodling mood today... Original available, prints to be had, drop a note or visit [link] for details.

*This is IRONY, people. I know most of you get it, but there's one in every crowd...

Not only is the Loch Ness Monster really a dodo, but it's also a GIANT dodo, previously unknown to science!

Dodos! Why did the Nessie-people never think of it? It makes perfect sense, especially when viewed in light of your dodo evolution chain - it could just as easily be a partially evolved marine dodo as a pleisiosaur.

Dodos are like the quintessential random animal - although the starnosed mole may be catching up. Dodos make me think of Jasper Fforde's books...

Meep! I saw this, and thought of the zoo.

Gerald Durrel Wildlife Preservation Trust uses the dodo as its symbol, to show that without help, more and more animals will end up like this bird. The zoo recreates the natural habitat of endangered animals, breeds them, puts them in rehabilitation programs, and then releases them back into the wild once there are enough for a self-sustaining population. They also work with other zoos and other countries to aid in education and conservation of the natural habitat and if possible, the plantation of new safe habitats in the wild where it matters, so that we have somewhere to release the animals where they can happily live forever more.

Yeah, I’m just a walking advertisement. But look it up, do a Google. It might give you some interesting animal ideas for your work.

But yes, loving the irony on this piece. It so fits.

We're all a little weird. And life's a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up in mutual weirdness and call it love.
