Artist's Comments

The platypus was aware that some people flew garlic competitively, but the idea had never interested him. He just wanted to be out here, feeling the breeze in his fur, watching the ponderous yet oddly delicate motion of the garlic in the wind.

He and his garlic knew how good they were. He didn't feel any need to prove it.

------------------

I considered trying to explain this, but if you've been looking at the art for any length of time, you're familiar with the small-animal-in-giant-surreal-landscape theme, and I either don't need to explain or there is no possible hope of me EVER explaining. Either way. Anyway, it's a digital piece, primarily Painter 7 and Intuos tablet.

Prints available in small and jumbo sizes--send a note or visit [link] for details.

When in doubt, draw a penguin.
This applies to everything. Writer's block? Draw a penguin. Can't make a decision? Draw a penguin. Don't know what to draw next? Draw a penguin. Stuck in traffic? Draw a penguin.

The science behing it is obvious. Chemicals within the garlic react with the wind streams and produce bouyancy. Love your work Lav.

"I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I've watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears... in rain."

I am ninety-nine percent sure that the phrase "flew garlic competitively" has never before been uttered in the English language.

This, of course, is lovely. I'm glad to see a bit of the old giant vegetable surrealism. The color choice is very striking, although-- if it's not too much to toss an idea out there-- I might have suggested making it just a hair lighter. It seems a bit ominous, as if the garlic is about to seize control of the platypus and drag him along.

Then again, I wouldn't put that past you. ;)

Nice work!
