I got this urge to paint checkerboard tile.

No, seriously, that was the whole motivation for the painting--I wanted to paint the tile.

I could probably have sated that urge with something rather less complex that would not have involved painting that much satin and ruffly bits, but as usual, I outwitted myself.

For some reason the penguin on a camel in the desert didn't geographically bother me, but penguins with a polar bear (opposite poles) does.
