The Polar Court by ursulav The Polar Court by ursulav
I got this urge to paint checkerboard tile.

No, seriously, that was the whole motivation for the painting--I wanted to paint the tile.

I could probably have sated that urge with something rather less complex that would not have involved painting that much satin and ruffly bits, but as usual, I outwitted myself.

Digital, done with Painter 7 and an Intuos tablet, prints available as always at [link]

I've written whole stories because I wanted to use one line. At least your tile is a much larger part of the painting.

This is brilliant, the way you pursued that inspiration. It's rather inspiring to me. :D

This is probably the only occasion in my life that I will call a polar bear beautiful.

For some reason the penguin on a camel in the desert didn't geographically bother me, but penguins with a polar bear (opposite poles) does.

Gorgeous! Amazing what a longing to paint checkerboards can do - quite amazing that you managed to make a polar bear look elegant :)

I must admit the scientists in me winces to see a polar bear and marmot (?) next to penguins, though! Hehe

No, seriously, that was the whole motivation for the painting--I wanted to paint the tile.

I don't think that's odd at all. A lot of my paintings were done just because I wanted to paint a single detail of them.
This is excellent, by the way! Great work!

I have a feeling that when I have children I shall buy your prints in bulk to bedeck their rooms with the marvelousness that is you work and years later one of them will ask me just why was that red gecko looking at the pink rocks with terror and that will be how I start The Talk.

On a more serious note, This is a gorgeous peice and it does remind me of a story book or something I'd hang in a child's room

Nimue_amethyst showed me this picture years ago and I fell in with it -:)

I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the picture. More whimsically: it is only natural for emperor penguins to treat polar bears so -:)

PaintedYoko Featured By Owner Sep 9, 2004
Oh! I think I know what book you're talking about! Is it called Animalia? With the alphabetical tongue-twisters and all that jazz? I have such a book, and the art is a lot like this o.o! Tis a thing'a beauty, I tell ya.

This is without a doubt the most amazing CG piece I've seen. I can't get over how the dress really looks like cloth and I've never seen anyone render fur with such life like results. The bear looks just do elegant and classy. How the heck did you learn this stuff? I simply must fave this.
