I haven't got a clue what it is, but I think it's actually what I was trying to do. And I kind of want to do more of them. (My attempt to describe it to a friend of mine came out as "It's a kind of...jackalope fetus saint thing with baby hands." She looked at me for a minute and then said "Well, you're not boring.")
The plant in its hand is a native of my area, Carolina lupine, also known as "Aaron's Rod." This fact has no bearing or significance on anything. --------------------
12 x 16--the original's actually got a bit more of the textured white bits in it, but I cropped it down an inch or two here, just to keep the scanner happy. This is another of the very mixed media pieces--a digital underpainting, printed on illustration board and sealed to masonite, reworked with colored pencil and acrylic ink, and the background is a heavily textured surface achieved with gel medium and patches of ceramic stucco. The halo is gold leaf.
Original is for sale! Prints can be ordered directly from Red Wombat Studio at [link] and you can find more information about ordering the original there too.
I love this! It looks almost like a baby Baphomet. It's cool how all of the different textures work together so well. What a wonderfully disturbed mind you have.
Just wanted to let you know that after staring at this for several minutes yesterday, I had a dream last night that I had a new baby swaddled, and when I opened up the blanket this little creature was inside. Far from being upset, I was in love and just thought he was the cutest.
Which I just discovered... really the pic I just linked reminded me of yours first not the other way around.
