I went to Florida last week, and at the Epcot center, for the first time, I saw real live manatees.

If there is anything more adorable and tragic than the manatee, I do not know what it is. Their wodgy little faces! Their poor scarred up backs! We spent like an hour there with me making idiot noises at the poor wodgy manatees and my boyfriend attempting to convince me that I probably shouldn't ditch my career and devote my life to manatee rehabilitation, what with my fear of water and all.

When we finally got home, naturally I had to paint one.

Probably going to Midwest Furfest, unless someone would like to make me an offer I can't refuse first. The manatee is around 9 x 6, mixed media and gold leaf on watercolor paper. Prints are available at Red Wombat Studio: [link]

Oh.. this is so cute! Even with the cartoonish style, you still managed to capture the basic form of a manatee. I love your art style! :D

Brilliant colors on this one. The blue and gold background sets off the manatee's colors nicely... it reminds me of lapis lazuli.

Such a squishy, woodgy beast.

No idea why, but when I first clicked on this picture, something in the back of my head screamed for me to call it a platypus. *shrugs and lights herself on fire* :onfire:
