Description
For reasons that I am not entirely clear on, a sizable subset of fantasy characters seem to spend time levitating bird skulls. I've seen it a half dozen times, and I have no idea why. Is a bird skull just easier to levitate? Do the hollow bones resonate somehow with a memory of weightlessness, and beginning students of levitation who've mastered feathers move on to bird skulls next?
Perhaps it's just theatrical resonance. "Alas, poor Chicken, I knew him well..."*

This was a piece I did fooling around with the color scheme and the complicated textures from the White Rabbit painting of awhile back. It was half done for months, and finally I finished it off in a frenzy of...frenziedness. Pretty much a glorified texture study, in the hoods I like so well. (I apologize for the dreadful scan job --this one just fought like the devil and I may have to go back and photograph it later to try and get it better.)
16 x 20 on cradled clayboard, mixed media, original is for sale, prints available. Send a note or visit [link] for details.
*Yes, I know that's not how it really goes, O Shakespearean Nitpickers Among Us. I apologize.
