So hey, I wrote a book! Another one, anyway!

It's a collection of fairy-tale retellings I've written over the years, plus an all-new never-before-seen novella called "Boar & Apples." (Think Snow White. With talking truffle pigs instead of dwarves.) As always with my stuff that's not for kids, it's under my pen-name, T. Kingfisher, so that parents do not hastily buy kids a book and not realize that this is a book full of weird and occasionally scary dark things.

You can check it out at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, etc.

I shall now attempt not to fangirl.

Just came across your T. Kingfisher stuff and fell in love with it. I devoured Seventh Bride, Bryony and Roses and the Nine Goblins in two sittings whilst attempting to ration them out for myself and remembered the story you had done online with Sings-to-Trees which you called Elf vs. Orc and I'm now going to be that irritating heckler which asks  the dreaded question 'what's up with that?'.

I loved it when I read it and I always wanted to see it finished. You mentioned in your author notes in one of your Kingfisher books that you pick and pick at stories until you finally buckle down and get them done and I was just wondering if there were ever plans to finish Elf vs. Orc or if it fell to the wayside in favour of Nine Goblins?

Anyway, that aside, I enjoyed your stories -particularly Nine Goblins- and I mean it as the highest of compliments when I say that it struck me as being very Pratchett like. Especially when giving the light and lyrical impression of a children's book almost and then -boom- psychotic wizards.

I'm off to get Toad Words next but I was wondering if there's a particular supplier that gives you more of a cut of the profits because I'd buy from them if that was the case.

I'll have to pick that up, then! By the way, what does the T. in your pen-name stand for?
amethyst42 Featured By Owner Aug 8, 2014
The T stands for Rufus, of course.

It is magnificent, I devoured it all in around 2 hours, and I loved loved LOVED Boars & Apples.

The retelling of Red Riding Hood gave me actual shivers, it was creepily well done.

If you haven't gotten a copy yet, go, do it now.

So excited, I didn't realize I could get these on my nook. Only found out about nine goblins a week or so ago, will add this one. I was worried it'd be only kindle like some are!

I like the cover (and the quote).
I would gladly purchase your book, I have a fondness for fairy tales, but I have a technical question : is the epub file protected with DRM when we buy it on, say Smashwords ? (I know for sure that it is the case on Amazon, and my ereader is neither a Kobo nor a Nook so...)
I really don't like buying ebooks with DRMs for practical [1]  and philosophical [2] reasons.

[1] I would need to break the DRM to be able to read the file and it's not convenient
[2] DRMs are bad !

Anyway, thanks for sharing your art!

Ok ignore my question, I just found the FAQ of Smashwords and they sell DRM free ebooks. I guess you just won another reader ;-)

No worries! As a matter of principle, I avoid DRM whenever possible, and opt out of the Amazon version if I can (they give you an opt out choice, but who knows how much it actually works?) Smashwords is definitely the best for that, though!

Judge a book by its cover?  You betcha.  Smashwords version is now in my Books folder.  :mwahaha:
