...And it was then she realized that the turnip was following her.
Acrylic, 12 x 12, clayboard (no surprise.) The scary part is not the turnip, nor the fact that I spent two days painting a scene involving a menacing root vegetable. The scary (or at least sad) part is that this is actually the second time I've painted a woman being menaced by an evil turnip (the first, fortunately for all, is languishing undone on my hard drive, possibly never to see the light of day.) This probably says something deeply revealling about my psyche, but I'm not sure what.
Still in my depth-of-field experiment--the figure's a little different than the usual--I've spent much of the last week doing sketches in a very comicky style for a kid's reader, and it kind of spilled over, so she wound up as an almost chibi-ish modern version of a character recently introduced in my webcomic Digger. I'm not sure whether I like the effect or not, but hey, experimentation is the heart of...err....something...
Original for sale (isn't it always?) and prints available, e-mail or drop a note or visit [link] for details.

Some vegetables come from the wrong side of town. That's just life. Perhaps, this is a turnip that lived (was dug up) then died and was re-buried then re-emerged. It may be an undead turnip. Hence, this adventurer is prepared in case of a confrontation. Undead vegetables are actually quite common. They like to hide in refrigerators and appear when you have guests.
